The Virginia Horse Center will host a three-day event this weekend entitled “Be Still and Know: Seeing God in the Storm.”
Organized by community members Amy and Jason Moore, the event will feature stories, music, and reflections centered on faith, resilience, and service in the wake of Hurricane Helene’s devastating flooding in North Carolina.
The event, which runs from Friday through Sunday, Jan. 3-5, will include testimonials from those directly affected by or involved in relief efforts. Cynthia Eshleman from Lake Lure, N.C., will share her experience of going six days without knowing her family’s safety after trees fell on her property, while local resident Tammy Reid will recount how she helped gather resources to provide Christmas gifts for 331 children in need. Local photographer Bryce Teague will also present images documenting the aftermath of the storm and the recovery efforts that followed.
Attendees will hear messages from several pastors, including Chad Ellege of Leicester Baptist Church in North Carolina, Kent Lundy of Calvary Baptist in Chambersburg, Pa., John Tilley of Marlbrook Baptist Church, Mickey Kirkland and Ralph Coleman of Blue Ridge Baptist, and See Helene , page 2 Scott Reese of Goshen Baptist Church. Live music will play a central role throughout the weekend, with performances by Luv Buzzards, Blue Grass Gospel, Kevin Wallace, Grant Bryant, and others.
In addition to worship and storytelling, the event will serve as a hub for community giving. Guests are encouraged to bring donations of essential supplies, such as toilet paper, paper towels, laundry detergent, canned food, medical supplies, baby diapers, and formula. Contributions will support both local needs and international efforts, including those of missionaries Bill and Lori Smith in Papua, New Guinea. A trailer from Beacon of Truth will also be on-site to collect used clothing.
The revival begins Friday evening and continues through Sunday afternoon, with doors opening early each day to welcome guests. Organizers hope the weekend will offer both reflection and action, bringing people together in faith, service, and shared purpose.
