Main Street BV Achieves New Designation

Main Street Buena Vista is one of nine such organizations from around the state that last week achieved Advancing Virginia Main Street designation.

The newly designated communities, according to an announcement from Gov. Glenn Youngkin’s office, will receive “intensive services to help strengthen their downtowns, including market analysis, marketplace development, capacity building, design assistance, organization development, economic strategies and façade renderings for redevelopment projects.”

Brooke Dalton, MSBV’s executive director, said she was “thrilled” to learn of this latest milestone for the organization she’s headed the past two years. “This designation is a testament to our community’s dedication to revitalizing downtown Buena Vista, fostering economic growth, and enhancing the quality of life for residents and visitors alike.”

She explained that the new designation “positions us to access greater resources, technical support and funding opportunities through the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development and Virginia Main Street. These tools will help us implement impactful projects that preserve our historic assets, support local businesses and create a vibrant, welcoming downtown.”

She added, “We couldn’t have achieved this without the support of our volunteers, local partners and community members who share a vision for a thriving Buena Vista. Their contributions have been vital to our progress, and we’re excited about the opportunities ahead.”

The year 2025 will mark the fourth year of MSBV promoting downtown Buena Vista. It began as a pilot program affiliated with Virginia Main Street in 2022.
