Looney, Mitchell Lead ‘Cats At Heritage

The Rockbridge County High School indoor track and field team had several strong performances at the Heritage Invitational on Saturday at Heritage High School in Lynchburg.

Sophomore Finbar Looney, RC’s lone boy, placed 24th in the shot put with a toss of 24 feet, 9 inches, a personal record by nine inches.

For the RC girls, freshman Ariana Mitchell had the top showing, placing fifth in the high jump, clearing 4-10. Mitchell had already qualified for the Class 3 state meet by clearing 5 feet in the Wildcats’ first meet of the season on Dec. 11 at Fork Union Military Academy.

Mitchell also raced well in the 55-meter dash, finishing 11th in 9.54 seconds.

Joining Mitchell in the girls’ 55-meter dash were freshmen Harper Bruno and Elle Werner. Bruno placed 35th in 9.54 seconds, and Werner came in 38th in 9.74.
