PM Wrestlers Eighth of 26

With six grapplers placing in the top six, the Parry McCluer High School wrestling team finished eighth of 26 teams at the Heritage Battle for the Belts Dec. 27-28 at Heritage High School in Lynchburg.

In their first double-elimination tournament of the season, the Fighting Blues were one of only three Class 1 schools competing against larger schools and were five points from fifth place. “We did pretty well,” said PM head coach Jeremiah Brockenbrough.

The top finisher for the Blues was junior Jacob Shafer, who placed second at 144-pounds.

Blues placing fourth were senior Jackson Brockenbrough (150-pounds) and sophomore Jordan Brockenbrough (132). PM wrestlers placing fifth were senior Cyler Driscoll (138) and freshman Brody Julian (120), while freshman teammate Timber Thomas placed sixth in the 285-pound/heavyweight division.

The Blues’ first competition of the new year will be a home quad meet on Thursday at 5 p.m. against Buffalo Gap, Northside and Rural Retreat. On Saturday, they’ll compete in the Matt Bryant Memorial Duals at Franklin High School in Franklin.
