Dec. 31, 2024 Editor, The News-Gazette: I have another modest proposal.
The Board of Regents in Georgia has instituted a long-over-due remedy to the foolishness of DEI, so-called “Diversity, Equity and Inclusion” programs that claim to redress alleged past discrimination in America. DEI caters to groups with exaggerated claims of suffering: Blacks, women, immigrants, the handicapped, people who practice sexual abominations.
Basically, DEI stubbornly refuses to let bygones be bygones. Discrimination hardly exists today.
The real solution would have been, and still could be, to teach people how to be proper white people. Then, we would truly be “one nation under God.” With everyone the same, there couldn’t be any discrimination. And everyone would know how to act right.
The Founders started this trouble by allowing everybody to worship God according to their own conscience. Look where that got us! Before you knew it, true Christianity had degenerated into innumerable sects that couldn’t agree on anything. There were Quakers and Shaker’n Bakers and a lot of fakers, in addition to Baptists and Methodists and Jews and who knows what else?
It’s worse today. Every crackpot with a basement claims to be preaching true Christianity, instead of the right way. There are so many splinter groups believing so many different things, it’s impossible to establish a proper Christian nation. And, most disgusting of all, people have the nerve to love whoever they love. All this loving is a perversion of Christianity. Just look up what Jesus said about it.
Virginia needs to follow Georgia’s lead. Maybe then everyone can get back to the “pursuit of happiness” we were all promised. JOE PETITE Rockbridge County
