Ayers, McDaniel Lead BoardAgain

Leslie Ayers and David McDaniel are leading the Rockbridge County Board of Supervisors in 2025, as they were selected to continue serving as chair and vice chair, respectively, during the Board’s annual reorganizational meeting on Monday, Jan. 13.

The supervisors opted to continue holding their regular meetings on the second and fourth Mondays of each month at 5:30 p.m. Ayers announced committee assignments for individual Board members in the new year.

A five-year capital improvements plan was provisionally adopted for fiscal years 2026-2030. Among the projects in the CIP is the county’s share (61.7 percent) of an upcoming $11.5 million bond issuance to be undertaken by the city of Lexington to finance construction of the new Rockbridge Regional Department of Social Services headquarters in Buena Vista.

Other items in the CIP include future spending on recycling/ trash collection centers at unspecified locations in the Forge Road and Walkers Creek/Rockbridge Baths areas and replacement of compactors at the collection centers at Greenhouse Road, Fairfield, Fancy Hill, Goshen and Kerrs Creek.

The supervisors approved using school escrow funds to pay for a feasibility study of building a multi-use facility at Rockbridge County High School.

The Board appointed Carolyn Kendall to the Rockbridge Area Community Services Board to replace Kevin Kendall, who resigned, and recommended to the Circuit Court the appointment of Roy Fauber to the Board of Zoning Appeals to replace Carroll Comstock, who resigned.

Jon McDonald and other members of the Rockbridge Regional Fair and Expo Board reported that the fair, held Sept. 12-14 at the Virginia Horse, had gone well. Attendance was comparable to what it had been when it was held in Glasgow the prior three years. Participation in the 4-H livestock exhibits are on the upswing, with 33 participants. There were no amusement park rides but they should be returning for the 2025 fair, which is to be held on the same weekend at the horse center.
