Kerrs Creek Ruritans Celebrate Anniversary

The Kerrs Creek Ruritan Club celebrated its 85th anniversary at its Dec. 17 meeting at New Monmouth Presbyterian Church.

Jeff Roadcap, national director, and his wife Sherry, and Cindy Durham were guests. Jeff Roadcap presented President Vicki Hodges with a certificate from Ruritan National and for all the years of fellowship, good will and community service.

He also installed the 2025 officers: Vicki Hodges, president; Rosanne Mackey, vice president; Felicia Bush, treasurer; Janet Drake, secretary; Wayne Spencer, one-year director; Reid Mackey, two-year director; and Deb Jarrett, three-year director.

Gary Swink brought the club’s 50th anniversary booklet, which included the 30th anniversary photo of the charter members.

It was announced that the District Convention was held in Bonsack on Oct. 26. The club received awards for community service: a gold in social development and a bronze in membership growth and public service.

The club collected clothes, blankets, flashlights, batteries and other items in conjunction with New Monmouth Presbyterian Church for disaster relief in North Carolina. Twenty totes and eight boxes were sent.

The club’s trash pickup was Nov. 16, with assistance from the Lexington Woman’s Club.

Sixty-six Christmas baskets and 19 bags of toys were delivered on Dec. 17 by members to 39 families. Bill Jenkins coordinated this effort.

Richard and Rene Hasey coordinated and rang the bell for the Salvation Army. Rosanne Mackey, Janet Drake and Sarah Burleson also helped.

Dictionaries were donated by Brownsburg, Effinger, Kerrs Creek, Natural Bridge and Sam Houston Ruritan clubs to third-graders at Central, Fairfield, Mountain View and Natural Bridge elementary schools.

The golf tournament will be held on June 13 at the Lexington Golf & Country Club.

The National Convention in Greenville, S.C., will be held Jan. 24-25. Members will be attending to support Gary Swink, candidate for national president-elect.

The club will meet at New Monmouth Presbyterian Church at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 21.
