PM Boys Down Grayson County In Region 1C Quarterfinals, 47-38

 

Tuesday, Feb. 21 - The Parry McCluer High School boys basketball team won their Region 1C quarterfinal matchup 47-38 against Grayson County High School on Tuesday night. The Blues (19-8) were seeded as the No. 2 team and Grayson County was seeded as the No. 2 team. With the win, PM will advance to the semifinals to play against George Wythe at Pulaski County High School on Thursday at 6 p.m. for a super-site game.

The first quarter of the game was a low scoring bout. The Blues got on the scoreboard first with Landon Catlett finding a layup in the middle, and then with Isaac Griffin doing the same to make the score 4-0. The score was tied 8-8 for the majority of the quarter but a Catlett free throw at the end made the score 9-8.

The Blue Devils (8-15) made a 3-pointer to start the second quarter to get their only lead of the game, 11-9 over PM. John Snider and Evan Cook combined for 12 points to lead the Blues back and take a 21-11 lead before halftime. 

Out of halftime, Grayson County and Parry McCluer traded three pointers to start. Snider helped the Blues maintain their lead by scoring a three pointer and a free throw. PM led out of the third quarter with a 29-21 advantage.

In the fourth quarter, the Blue Devils were unable to catch PM. In the closing minutes, Cook hit a total of five free throws to help seal the game with the Blues winning 47-38.

Catlett led the Blues with 18 points and two steals, followed by Cook with 14 points. Snider had a double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds.
