Schley Named New RCSO Chief Deputy

Rockbridge County Sheriff Tony McFaddin announced this week that he has selected Donald Schley to serve as his chief deputy, the role McFaddin held until he became sheriff this year.

“Donald’s commitment to serving our community is commendable, and I am fortunate to have worked alongside him for the past 24 years,” said McFaddin. “I have always been impressed by the compassion and empathy that he exhibits to everyone in our community. I chose him because of his honor, ethics and experience. He also has the respect of the men and women under his command.”

Schley is a 1997 graduate of Parry McCluer High School. He began his law enforcement career with the Virginia Department of Corrections in 1999. He completed an internship with the Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office in 2001 and was hired by Sheriff R.W. Day as a deputy sheriff the following year.

During his years with the sheriff’s office, Schley has served as a patrol deputy, a SWAT team member, a drug investigator, the coordinator of the Regional Drug Task Force, a general Investigator, the investigations sergeant, the chief of investigations, and the chief of special operations.

Schley is a graduate of the Central Shenandoah Criminal Justice Training Academy and the Virginia Forensic Science Academy. He has received specialized training in forensics and the forensic interviewing of children (Child First). He has also received training through the University of Tennessee’s Institute for Public Service at its Law Enforcement Innovation Center/ Forensic Anthropology Center and the University of Radford’s Institute of Anthropology and Archaeology. He also earned his associate’s degree in criminal justice from Eastern Gateway Community College.

He has been presented with numerous awards, including the Mothers Against Drunk Driving DUI Enforcement Award, the Drug Enforcement Award, and the John Swink Award (Lexington Lions Club) for public dedication and service to his community.
