Four new officers have joined the Buena Vista police department after graduating together from the Central Virginia Criminal Justice Academy on Dec. 18. They are Kevin Chittum, Glenn “Trey” Orren, Allison Boswell and Chase Camden.

Boswell grew up in Bedford and graduated from Staunton River High School in 2021. She studied business management at Virginia Western Community College. Soon thereafter, she moved to Buena Vista to assist with caring for her family’s property. “Officer Boswell,” said a spokesperson for the department, “has always had an interest in law enforcement work and a love for investigations, and believes her values align with the department’s core values of integrity, respect, courage and service. She is excited about the opportunity of working as a police officer with the Buena Vista police department and wants to make a difference in how law enforcement officials are viewed by establishing strong and trusting relationships with the community of Buena Vista.”

Camden was born in Roanoke and raised in Rockbridge County, later graduating from Parry McCluer High School in 2019. He studied HVAC and electrical wiring at Virginia Western Community College, receiving his certification in 2020. “Officer Camden is interested in law enforcement because he wanted to be part of the change in Buena Vista and be part of the new culture that we are embracing within our department,” said the spokesperson. “To Officer Camden, Buena Vista has always been home to him, and he wants to give back and protect the community that he grew up in. [He] is excited to start his career in his hometown.”

Chittum was born in Charlottesville and raised in Buena Vista, graduating from PMHS in 2016. He studied criminal justice at Davis and Elkins College in West Virginia for two years. “Officer Chittum has always been fascinated with law enforcement … [he] joined the Buena Vista police department as a way to serve the community he considers his hometown, and looks forward to being a part of the positive changes happening in Buena Vista,” the spokesperson said.

Orren, born in Fishersville, was raised in Buena Vista and graduated from PMHS in 2022. He attended Emory and Henry University, where he played football for two years. “Officer Orren became interested in law enforcement when he began high school and was inspired by his school resource officers. [He] also has always had a passion for helping others. [He] hopes to grow closer to his community and be a part of the changing culture that is being worked on within the department.” Orren, continued the spokesperson, “has an interest in making a difference in his community by maintaining public safety and helping others in need.”
