Due to the extreme cold and icy conditions on some of the streets in downtown Lexington, the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day parade was canceled. But a downtown merchant thought that the show had to go on in some fashion. “When I found out that MLK parade was canceled, I felt that we could still do something to celebrate the legacy of Martin Luther King Jr.,” said Siobhan Deeds, co-owner of Pumpkinseeds. “So Amenie Mitchell and I came up with idea. It was very last minute, but I’m thrilled that 30 people showed up at Hopkins Green. A true grass roots effort.” ABOVE, a group of attendees pose for photo in Hopkins Green.AT LEFT, Deeds, along with her business partner, Tom Lomax, display their MLK signs. (Joann Ware photos)
