Bill Creates Tax Credit For Venison Donations

Jan. 17, 2025 Editor, The News-Gazette: Democratic Del. David Reid of Loudoun County, a native of rural Rockbridge County, has introduced HB 1741 in the Virginia General Assembly to create a tax credit for hunters who donate processed venison to local food banks to address food insecurity in the commonwealth.

You can learn more about the bill at shorturl.at/Mmz45.

Most important, this legislation will help meet the food needs of struggling families in our area and throughout Virginia.

It also sends a message to rural Virginians that Democrats do not want to take away firearms from responsible gun owners and in fact appreciate when they do good things.

Although the bill was introduced by a Democrat, there’s no reason Republicans can’t support it. So I hope our local delegates, Terry Austin and Ellen Campbell, as well as our state senator, Chris Head, will join with Delegate Reid to help turn this bill into law. GENE ZITVER Lexington
