W&L Offering WFR Training

W&L Offering WFR Training

Wilderness First Responder (WFR) certification is being offered through Washington and Lee University’s Outing Club Feb. 22-March 2. The week-long course is being taught by Stonehearth Open Learning Opportunities (SOLO).

“Do you do great things in the outdoors?” asked Katelyn Nicely, operations manager for W&L’s Outdoor Education Recreation program. “Ever worry that you would not know how to handle an injury or dangerous situation?”

Participants in the WFR training, she said, will “learn some important skills for [their] next personal adventure. These classes are offered every other year on campus and are the premier wilderness certification in the nation. [It’s] highly recommended for anyone venturing outdoors with others or alone.”

Topics covered in the training include response and assessment, musculoskeletal injuries, environmental emergencies, survival skills and soft tissue injuries. Medical emergencies are covered extensively.

“There are real-life scenarios that you get to participate in,” added Nicely. “Don’t miss out on this awesome opportunity to get your WFR [certification].”

The cost to enroll in the WFR week-long training is $695. For more information, contact Nicely at [email protected].
