Burant, Whitmore To Lead Board

The Rockbridge County School Board held its annual reorganizational meeting, as part of its regular board meeting, on Jan. 14. Kathy Burant was chosen to be the new chair of the board, with Neil Whitmore stepping down to be vice chair.

Rhonda Humphries is continuing as the School Board clerk, with Tim Martino as the deputy clerk.

Martino is also the superintendent designee for the Board. Jason Kirby, Tim Martino, Randy Walters and Phillip Thompson were named as the fiscal agents of the School Board.

Principals Honored

Rockbridge County School Superintendent Phillip Thompson gave a special recognition to the division’s principals at the Jan. 14 School Board meeting for Principals Appreciation Week.

Highlighting the dedication of the six principals of Rockbridge County schools — Melanie Hickman, Melanie Camden, Mike Craft, Robin Parker, Michael Loret, and Vicki Stevens — Thompson said that “most people don’t really know what they have to deal with.

“They work extremely hard, and that time pulls them away from their families,” he continued. “They’re extremely dedicated people.

School Board Chair Kathy Burant read a statement, saying in part, “Being a principal is no easy job, but you handle it with grace and enthusiasm.”
