A Cappella Group In Concert At W&L

The King’s Singers has represented the gold standard in a cappella singing on the world’s greatest stages for over 50 years and will be performing at Wilson Concert Hall at Washington and Lee University on Feb. 7 at 8 p.m.

Each iteration of the group has been renowned for its unrivalled technique, versatility and consummate musicianship —drawing both on its rich heritage and its pioneering spirit — to create a wealth of original works and unique collaborations, said a spokesperson.

What has always distinguished the King’s Singers is its comfort in an unprecedented range of styles and genres, pushing the boundaries of its repertoire while at the same time honoring its origins in the British choral tradition, the spokesperson said.

The group appears regularly in major cities, festivals and venues across Europe, North America, Asia and Australasia. Its extensive discography has led to numerous accolades including two Grammy Awards, an Emmy Award and a place in Gramophone magazine’s inaugural Hall of Fame.

The King’s Singers will present a concert entitled “Close Harmony” that celebrates highlights of the group’s repertoire since its founding in 1968, including arrangements of English folksongs as well as songs by Billy Joel, John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Gershwin and Bob Chilcott.

Tickets are available as follows: adults, $28; seniors, $23; and W&L faculty and staff, $18. Students can attend for free by showing their ID card.
