The Buena Vista School Board approved preliminary plans for the new F.W. Kling Jr. Elementary School. - Ralph Davies celebrated 50 years working in movie theaters in Lexington. His fathern- law, Isaac Weinberg, opened the Lyric Theatre in 1912 and took over the operation of The New Theatre – now the State Theatre – shortly after a local corporation opened it in 1919. - The newly renovated White Column Inn opened for business under the ownership of Mata McGuire and John Lanier. The restaurant specialized in home cooking, fresh breads and other pastries.

Virginia Military Institute’s cadet-run judicial system was given the responsibility for conducting an investigation into possible cadet misbehavior at a Halloween party in the barracks in which some cadets reportedly wore Nazi uniforms. - The Seay House at Southern Virginia University was demolished after years of standing watch over Buena Vista from its post on Seminary Hill. - Author and Washington and Lee University alumnus Tom Wolfe was in town to sign copies of his latest book, “I Am Charlotte Simmons.”
