Diana Schofield was named the Business Individual of the Year at the local chamber of commerce’s 86th annual Dinner Dance and Auction Saturday night.
Schofield has owned and operated Rockbridge Music for 40 years as of this summer.
“I am honored to receive this award,” said Schofield as she accepted her award. “My business adviser told me that we needed a community of at least 50,000 people to make it [her business] happen.”
She proved him wrong. Over the years, she has taught and supported hundreds of music students - both youth and adults. She has provided part-time work for and mentored young people, and she has provided support for the music programs at local schools.
Schofield has also played for charity events at no charge, and has championed the local music scene through its ups and downs, including its current revival.
During the pandemic, Schofield kept Rockbridge Music going and provided much-needed connections for long-time musicians as well as people interested in learning a new skill during their restricted time.
“Diana has done all this quietly, while raising four children, with no requests for recognition,” according to her nominated form. “Diana is a humble role model as a woman business owner who contributes to the community in countless ways.
