Ready For Something New?

Every day of the week you can find something happening at Maury River Senior Services in Buena Vista or the VPAS Lexington Cafe. New activities are starting soon, and ongoing activities have limited spaces available. Check these out and sign up before all the slots are taken! - Western line dancing meets Monday from 11 a.m. until noon at MRSS in Buena Vista. Led by Karen and Tom Whaley, this class welcomes line dancers of all levels of experience, including beginners. Register at vpas.info/recreation or call (540) 261-7474. - Chris Bowring will begin another Tai Chi class on Tuesdays from 1 until 2 p.m. at MRSS. This is a gentle and uncomplicated form of Tai Chi for those with little or no experience. Class size is limited; the session will run from March 14 until April 18. Register at vpas.info/health-and-fitness or call (540) 261-7474. - Yoga Light, led by Holly Richardson, has a few spaces available on Wednesdays from 1:30 until 2:15 p.m. Exercises are done both sitting and standing; the class is held at MRSS. Register at vpas.info/health-and-fitness or call (540) 261-7474. - The Pickers and Singers, MRSS’s longest-running activity, meet Wednesday and Thursday mornings from 10 until 11. It is open to anyone 60 or older who likes to play a stringed instrument or sing, or both. Beginners are welcome, and there’s no need to read music or remember the words. Drop by MRSS any Wednesday or Thursday morning to sit in or listen!

Water color painting will be moving from MRSS to the RARA Community Room in Lexington. Chris Bowring will be teaching this class from March 16 until April 20 on Thursdays from 2 until 4 p.m. Register at vpas.info/recreation or call (540) 261-7474. - Tai Chi for Memory can improve brain health through slow, simple exercises that can be done sitting or standing. This mind-body class, offered by Jeri Schaff, can improve memory and focus through exercises that can easily be done at home. This class will meet at the RARA Community Room in Lexington Thursdays from 1:15 until 1:45 p.m. from April 13 to May 18. Space is limited; register at vpas.info/health-and-fitness or call (540) 261-7474. - VPAS Cafe Lexington meets every Thursday from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at the RARA Community Room. VPAS Cafe Buena Vista meets every Friday from 10:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. at Maury River Senior Services.

In addition to a freshly prepared lunch, Cafe members enjoy an opportunity for group exercise as well as having fun with various activities. March activities include Balance Bingo, Painting with Chris, and Bring a Friend Day. Anyone 60 or older who can see to their own needs is welcome to attend, and limited transportation may be available. Cafe members and those who wish to join must call (540) 261-7474 at least two days before the cafe they wish to attend to reserve their meal.
