The Rockbridge Education Association asked for an overall 12.5 percent increase in teachers’ salaries during a work session of the Lexington City School Board. That percentage was based on the 12.2 percent increase in the cost of living for the previous year. - Joseph E. Hess of Buena Vista was elected by the 1975 General Assembly to serve a six-year term in the 25th Judicial District as a General District Court Judge. - The first step toward planning a regional jail facility in the area was taken by the Rockbridge County Board of Supervisors when by unanimous vote, the board agreed to have the Central Shenandoah Planning District commission complete a feasibility study on the proposed jail.

As the inmate population at the Rockbridge Regional Jail continued to grow, the localities it served were faced with planning an expansion at the facility in the next couple of years. - Local Greyhound Bus ticket agent Charlene Thompson was told that the company had no plans to cut service to Buena Vista even after she had been previously told by the company that her stop would be eliminated at the end of July. - Tina Ravenhorst, a longtime secretary to the president of Washington and Lee University, died at the age of 89. At the time of her retirement from W&L in 1983, she was still using a Royal manual typewriter.
