Feb. 6, 2025 Editor, The News-Gazette: Most letters to the editor are written by folks who seem to be suppressing the positive achievements of our president. I’ll be the first to agree that he has a crummy personality and is abrasive with some of his comments. However, I don’t hold it against anyone who is rich. Being wealthy is considered a sign of success, intelligence and hard smart work.
The new president has been in office since Jan. 20 and so far has gotten U.S. hostages released from Venezuela, convinced Panama to terminate their canal contract with the communist Chinese, convinced Mexico and Canada to send 10,000 troops to their borders to help prevent illegals from crossing with or without fentanyl, deported hundreds of illegal immigrants who have committed serious crimes, barred men from women’s sports, held press conferences without a teleprompter almost every day, is working on peace settlements in Ukraine and Gaza, put together a team to try to reduce the expensive bloated bureaucracy in the federal government, visited disaster sites, is trying to make FEMA more efficient, almost completely shut down our border with Mexico and who knows what else by the time this may get printed.
I ask those who dislike our president to give him a chance. Most media networks are very liberal in their views. Fox is more on the conservative side but often interviews liberal politicians to give the audience a balanced approach. I watch CNN, MSNBC, Bloomberg, BBC, ABC, CBS, NBC and FOX to sift through all sides of an issue before I decide what is true. Being hateful is not helpful. BOB HOPKINS Lexington
