Feb. 6, 2025 Editor, The News-Gazette: I am a graduate of a federal military academy, Army veteran, retired law enforcement officer, and former professor of sociology at Washington and Lee University. I generally vote Republican, (not this time), and have always leaned conservative with an emphasis on improving the given model. I am no liberal Democrat.
Graduate school was occasionally, very unpleasant for this ex-Green Beret and Fed. More than once I overheard whispers of “baby-killer” and “racist” because I served my country and disagreed with leftist doctrine and the DEI agenda. These antics are expected in a university setting.
However, the radical fascism that we witness coming from the Trump administration is alarming. Iam proud to have been part of the FBI as it enjoys its current status as the most despised organization by MAGA lunatics.
I was a low-level executive manager in the FBI. It is an imperfect organization that suffers from occasional bureaucratic nonsense that can be self-serving and inefficient. However, when citizens are violated, the FBI steps up every time in spite of its flaws, because the dedicated workforce of investigators and analysts put themselves in harm’s way for the American people.
I have never seen political bias in any FBI investigation in my 25 years of service. We base our investigations on the rules of law and due process. That is, reasonable suspicion, probable cause, and beyond a reasonable doubt. The investigative theme is “reason.”
Trump violated the law and the trust of the American people. He was held accountable via legal investigation which is the duty and responsibility of the FBI. Now King Donald seeks vengeance. Make no mistake, he is a tyrant, and his lackies are fanatical sycophants. Their method is to reward seditionists and punish the enforcers of law. His actions are unreasonable and a threat to American democracy. JC CATALDI Rockbridge County
