Mary Huffman urged Buena Vista City Council on Feb. 6 to address the local homelessness situation.
Huffman said she was aware of homeless people living in Glen Maury Park and other local parks. She said she came across a homeless couple at the park on a recent frigid night. She said she provided them with a hot meal and regretted that she couldn’t do more.
She said she wasn’t aware of any local assistance available for the homeless. She said something needs to be done to at least provide them with shelter on cold nights. Melvin Henson responded by alluding to a house on Magnolia Avenue with multiple rooms and could possibly be used for emergency shelter.
