A large number of area citizens were purged from the list of .Virginia voters with 269,680 names removed statewide. The purge, required by the state constitution, removes the names of all voters who fail to cast a ballot at least once during the last four calendar years. - Arthur Palmer of Goshen avoided a trip to the emergency room when a bullet intending to do him harm struck his wooden leg. - Buena Vista was in danger of losing its free blood service from the American Red Cross. The city could not meet the quota of 115 pints during its last two blood drives.

Members of Lexington City Council and School Board toured the city’s two schools. Of particular concern was Waddell Elementary, which had a wood frame construction and a damp, unfinished area beneath the school. - John Morman and Mary Jo Morman became the new owners of Celtic Tides. - Plans were in the works to move Yellow Brick Road Early Learning Center from R.E. Lee Episcopal Church to its new location at 410 Mason Drive. .
