PM Boys Coast To District Title Over Narrows, Girls Fall

The Parry McCluer High School boys basketball team defended its Pioneer District tournament title by storming to a 70-37 home win over Narrows in the finals on Friday night, while the PM girls suffered a 59-28 setback in the finals at Narrows.

The PM boys (18-4 overall, 9-0 district), the top seed, followed up on their district regular-season title by defeating the Green Wave (15-9, 7-3) for the third time this season, and it was the most lopsided of the three wins.

In the girls’ championship game, Narrows (16-4, 8-0) won for the third time this season against the Fighting Blues (17-5, 6-2), who had battled the Blues a week earlier in Buena Vista before falling 44-32. The 31-point win for Narrows matched its margin of victory over PM in the Feb. 7 meeting at Narrows, when the Green Wave won 69-38. Last year, PM won the district title by defeating Narrows 55-52 in the finals.

Both PM teams advance to the Region 1C tournament and are scheduled to play host for the quarterfinals on Tuesday. Check back here for the opponents and times.
