Patterson Promoted At Sheriff’s Office

Rockbridge County and Lexington Sheriff Tony McFaddin announced that he has promoted Travis Patterson to the rank of lieutenant and has selected him to serve as his chief of investigations. “This welld eserved promotion is a testament to Travis’ unwavering dedication and outstanding contributions to our team,” said McFaddin. “In his new role, Travis will be responsible for managing not only our investigations squad, but all investigations across the entire agency.”

Patterson is a 2003 graduate of Rockbridge County High School and holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Central State University. He is a graduate of the Central Shenandoah Criminal Justice Training Academy and the Virginia Forensic Science Academy.

Patterson began his career in law enforcement in 2008 as a deputy sheriff for Rockbridge County. He worked as a patrol deputy until he was promoted to the rank of investigator in 2016. Patterson was promoted to senior investigator in 2020 and has been overseeing the day-today operations of the Investigations Squad.

Patterson has received the Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) DUI Enforcement Award four times and has earned the professional certification for Deputy Sheriffs from the Virginia Sheriff’s Institute. Patterson has also earned the FBI-LEEDA Trilogy Award by completing the Supervisor Leadership Institute, the Command Leadership Institute, and the Executive Leadership Institute. This curriculum was designed by the FBI to provide leadership education for law enforcement professionals.

Patterson is an active member of the Southern Virginia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force (SOVAICAC), is a certified Department of Criminal Justice Services general instructor, a Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) trainer, and a Project Lifesaver trainer.

He has received specialized training through the University of Tennessee’s Institute for Public Service at its Law Enforcement Innovation Center/Forensic Anthropology Center, and the National White Collar Crime Center.

Patterson lives in the Timber Ridge area of Rockbridge County with his wife Ashley and their two children.
