Readers Praise Their ‘Snow Angels’
LORI WILSON submitted this image of her neighbor Roberto shoveling her driveway following the Feb. 11 snowstorm. He was one of the many “snow angels” written about by News-Gazette Facebook readers.

Editor’s note: Two weeks ago on Facebook, we restarted an old feature called “Snow Angels.” We invited readers to submit paragraphs recognizing neighbors, family members or total strangers who went out of their way to help them, or the community, during or after the Feb. 11 snowstorm. The following is what was posted on Facebook as of Feb. 14. If you would like to submit an entry for your “snow angel,” just send us an email at editor@ thenews-gazette.com.

Kobi McCurdy - HUGE thanks to all the people at VDOT for giving their time and energy to get the roads clear and passable! Selfishly I’m super thankful for my husband’s efforts with them. He’s worked really long hours overnight. There are families behind all these guys that work nights. We’re all so thankful!!!! -Rebecca Jarvis Walters The City of Lexington Public Works department puts in countless hours to move snow, clear school parking lots and sidewalks, and clear narrow city streets to help us all get back to routine. Thank you! -Frances Ruley - My son-inlaw drove his tractor from Fairfield to Lexington plow me out. -Cindi Johnson-Jacobs - Tamera May and Megan Greer Mitchell are my heroes, along with their children, Willow and Liam! They are keeping the animals fed and cared for at Lexington Pet Place, Inc. and Blue Ridge Reptile Rescue! I’ve been unable to bust out of my VERY rural road and driveway and they trudged in to help! We’ll be open tomorrow and I’ll be back at it myself, but the animals needn’t know hunger!

-Darlene N James Clark Randy Holland our sweet neighbor plowed our driveway. We can’t thank him enough.

-Brenda Moore Wheeler My grandson Jacob cleaned my car, driveway and sidewalk... so helpful and I’m so thankful!

-Lori Wilson - My neighbor, Roberto, shoveled my driveway twice! He did it the first time before the snow had quite ended, then again yesterday. I have a chronic pain condition (he doesn’t know this) and this was such a massive help to me. When I went out to thank him, he said he wanted the exercise! He and his family are such lovely neighbors, I don’t know how I’ll repay them, but I’m going to think of something! -Lori Leonard - Thanks to VDOT for all they have done trying to stay ahead of the storm maintaining the roads.

Thanks to my husband, Eric for driving me to work this morning, as we live on a long hilly private road. -Tim Wilhelm - My neighbor Jim McCoy plowed me out. Thank You. -Joyce Marie Rice Spence - I lost my husband in January during our first snow/ ice storm and Carlton Conley and his son showed up to clear my sidewalk and driveway. Carlton was here again yesterday morning to shovel. What a blessing to have Snow Angels show up when you need them! -Susan Barbour - My son Chris Sherrill for always shoveling my two car driveway and sidewalk plus putting down ice melt so I wouldn’t fall. He’s my snow angel. -Paige Deacon - My Husband Mark Sours drives a dump truck pushing snow and salting the roads for Mc-Clung’s. He went in at 2 a.m. Tuesday, worked all night, came home Tuesday afternoon and got a little bit of rest. Then went back out at 8 p.m. last night and was out until this afternoon. -Crystal Groah - I have been sick for almost 3 weeks now and my sister Patricia Derr has been by my side through it all .... I am blessed for her help ... she shoveled my patio and a path so I could wall my dog without falling ....

Janice Moore - My husband James Moore. He works hard cleaning our driveway along with other neighbors’ driveways.

-Lisa McCoy Carter - Our son Adam Carter was starting to shovel our driveway when Travis Patterson saw him and used his ATV with a snowplow on it can and plowed our driveway. They were definitely our snow angels today.!

-Toye Entsminger - My wonderful neighbors Ceci Hunter, Tim Wansley and Jennifer Jarvis for clearing my sidewalk and digging my car out. The BEST snow angels.

-Christine Jones - My neighbor Rodney Thomas cleaned my drive twice & I have a long driveway! I use a walker & can’t walk to mail box so when Rodney picks up their mail he brings mine to me, he’s a good neighbor & a fine man. -Robyn N Sherman - My high school principal, Larry Bond, rides his John Deere tractor up Muse’s Hill to plow our driveway and the neighbor’s across the road whenever there is snow. We so appreciate his act of kindness! After all of these years he is still looking out for his former students. -Latha Dawson - Jerry Hall who normally mows my lawn. He plows my driveway. It is a paid service but one I am truly grateful for.

-Jan Baldwin Carver - A shout out to my neighbors Debi Ruley and Eddie Ruley who cleared my car and shoveled my walkway and steps twice this week. They are my snow angels. Don’t know what I would do without them.

-Jeanne Nicely Staton Cody Branham plowed out my driveway. -John Lackey - Thank goes out to VDOT who just scraped Lackey Lane off of Padgett’s Hill Road at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday .Now we can get out to hard surface road. Thanks VDOT. -Virginia Conner - My son, Matthew, plowed some driveways in Collierstown.
