Making an incredible comeback, the Parry McCluer High School boys basketball team earned a 60-55 win over Auburn in the Region 1C semifinals on Friday night at Northside High School in Roanoke, clinching a berth in the Class 1 state tournament next week.
The Fighting Blues (20-4), the top seed from the Pioneer District, trailed 31-20 at halftime and were down 44-34 after the third quarter, but they outscored the Eagles 26-11 in the fourth quarter to advance to the Region 1C championship game. It was the ninth consecutive win for the Blues. Auburn, the second seed from the Mountain Empire District, finished 16-10 overall.
In the regional finals, scheduled for 8 p.m. on Saturday at Northside, the Blues will take on George Wythe (22-4), the top seed from the Mountain Empire District. Admission is $10.
