Lexington Presbyterian Church will be holding its biennial Festival of Faith on Saturday and Sunday, March 11 and 12, with guest speaker the Rev. Aisha Brooks-Johnson, Executive Presbyter of Greater Atlanta. The theme of the festival is “Faith Now: 21st Century Discipleship” and features a series of events “exploring the nature of faith in the current moment – in our context of social, economic and racial injustice, when the world and many Christian churches are polarized, and as the post-COVID landscape places new challenges before communities of faith.”
On Saturday, beginning at 5:30 p.m., attendees will gather in Dunlap Auditorium for a pre-supper social, with a meal being served at 6 p.m. The menu includes baked chicken, a salad bar and dessert. Child care will be provided. Those who plan to attend are asked to register for the meal by calling the church office at (540) 4633873 or emailing an RSVP with name and number in the party to shayslette@lexpres. org. Brooks-Johnson will give an after-dinner talk that will be followed by a group discussion.
The church will offer a light breakfast Sunday morning from 8:30 to 9. Arts workshops for all ages exploring themes of Brooks-Johnson’s address will follow at 9. Spaces will be set up for writing, painting and drawing, sculpture and fabric crafts, and creative movement/ dance.
Brooks-Johnson will preach during the 11 a.m. worship service. At 5 p.m. in Dunlap Auditorium, Brooks-Johnson will be a guest at a youth group gathering that is open to all interested students in grades 6-12. Supper will be provided.
