Feb. 28, 2025 Editor, The News-Gazette: America is looking for a “Leader in Chief.” This position is distinguished from the current position, “Commander in Chief.” The mandatory requirement sought for this new position is integrity. Through integrity, a Leader will unify people, not consolidate power and divide the populace. He (or she) will lead from the front and by example to set the standard of conduct for others in service. The Leader will seek and place qualified staff members in key positions to further the greatest good for America, not simply award “spoils” to cronies.
Specifically, the Leader must demonstrate genuine qualities of courage, honor and compassion. The Leader will have the courage to consider diverse perspectives and expertise and to utilize them in furtherance of the greatest good. A Leader will honorably view public service as a responsibility, not a privilege. He will focus on the mission at hand but never forget social intricacies of decorum and courtesy. He will be primarily concerned with the well-being of all his constituents but he will consider the needs of others as “citizens of the world.” The Leader will do what is right based on time tested concepts of “due process” and the “rule of law”. He will welcome appropriate oversight and accountability measures for all custodians of democracy. The Leader will make America truly “great.” Not through rude behavior and hateful antics of the demagogue but rather via hard work and service to country as well as demonstrated compassion for others who are deserving but less fortunate.
Oligarchs, war profiteers and the addled need not apply. Draft dodgers, criminals and seditionists are grounds for immediate disqualification. Political manipulators of special interest both Left and Right … we have enough of those already.
