The schematic drawings for Rockbridge County’s proposed vocational school were approved by the State Board of Education and were ready to move into the design and development stage. - Dr. James Busch of Richmond became an associate of Dr. L. Thomas Kenney in the practice of pediatrics and family medicine. - Eight women graduated from the Stonewall Jackson Hospital School of practical nursing at a ceremony held in Lee Chapel. They were Connie Mamon, Wanda Porterfield, Patricia Tyree, Karen Myers, Dorcas Smothers, Vickie Grant, Rebecca Durr and Nancy Walters. .

Lexington City Council voted to allow an all-weather pool to be built on a portion of Brewbaker Field adjacent to the city’s outdoor municipal pool. - Following Dana Corp’s decision to move the line of axle production from the company’s Buena Vista plant to one in Kentucky, 60 workers were facing layoffs by the end of the year. - Smoking in the covered entryway to Buena Vista’s municipal building would soon be a thing of the past after Mayor Harold Kidd received a number of complaints about it, especially on days when court was in session.
