Firefighters Respond To Gas Leak Tuesday

A significant natural gas leak in downtown Lexington on Tuesday afternoon prompted evacuations and emergency response efforts, according to Lexington Fire Chief Ty Dickerson.

The leak was reported at 19 W. Nelson St., where Columbia Gas crews requested assistance from the Lexington Fire Department. Firefighters arrived on the scene, evacuated several nearby businesses, and forced entry into the affected building to ventilate it using a portable fan.

“Columbia Gas had already turned off the gas at the meter in the back of the store,” Dickerson said.

There were no reported injuries, and emergency crews worked swiftly to ensure the area was safe. The source of the leak and any potential damage is still under review.

Authorities advise residents and business owners to remain vigilant about gas odors and report any concerns to emergency services immediately.
