Council Awards Contract For City Hall Renovations

Lexington City Council voted to award the contract for the city hall renovation to Wall Construction in a special meeting held Thursday evening.

Council also approved increasing the bond for the project from $6.5 million to $6.75 million and using interest earned from the $10 million bond for the Department of Social Services project to cover the difference in the project cost from the budgeted amount of $6.5 million. The project is estimated to cost $7.3 million.

City Manager Tom Carroll also updated Council on plans for the departments currently housed in city hall to move into their temporary swing space locations for the duration of the renovation.

The city treasurer and commissioner of revenue offices will begin operating at 626 Waddell St. on March 10, and the remaining departments will relocate to 539 Nelson St. in the next few weeks, though no date has been set. The registrar’s office began operating at its temporary location at 300 Diamond St. in February.
