A police chase through Lexington last Wednesday ended with a vehicle in the rear yard of a Taylor Street house and resulted in multiple charges for a South Carolina woman, including four felony charges of assault on law enforcement.

Deborah Loraine Trott, 60, of Edgemoor, S.C., is also facing a felony charge of eluding police and three misdemeanor charges: general reckless driving, reckless driving with speeds of 20 mph or more over the speed limit, and obstruction of justice. Additionally, summons for three moving violations were obtained and a summons for driving under the influence of drugs was issued.

A hearing to appoint an attorney was held on Friday and a preliminary hearing on the charges is scheduled for Sept. 15 in Rockbridge County General District Court.

According to Lexington Police Chief Angela Greene, the incident began at 8 a.m. on Feb. 26 when officers with the Lexington Police Department responded to a call at the Hampton Inn Col Alto on Nelson Street of a woman acting erratic and possibly damaging vehicles in the parking lot. When officers arrived at the hotel, they observed Trott – who was at that point unidentified – acting in a disorderly manner.

Trott failed to obey police commands and got into her vehicle, exiting the hotel parking lot onto Nelson Street and heading east. She turned south onto the U.S. 11 bypass and then north onto South Main Street, heading back into Lexington. Trott then turned onto East Preston Street and then onto Taylor Street. At the end of the street, she then entered the rear yard of the house at 102 Taylor St., causing minor damage to the home. Trott was taken into custody without further incident and was taken to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Two Lexington Police Department vehicles and two Rockbridge County Sheriff’s Office vehicles were involved in the chase.
