At last Thursday’s Buena Vista City Council meeting, a couple of citizens raised concerns about the Buena Vista Library moving back into its headquarters in the old courthouse before all maintenance issues in the 1890s-era structure have been addressed.

The Rockbridge County Board of Supervisors is looking at dropping the real estate tax rate by 13 cents – from 74 to 61 cents per $100 value – to offset reassessments that are pushing up property values by 21 percent.

Diana Schofield was named the Business Individual of the Year at the local chamber of commerce’s 86th annual Dinner Dance and Auction Saturday night.

School officials at Enderly Heights Elementary School determined there was no active threat to students after a notebook containing a list of students under the heading “Death Note” was found in a classroom last Monday, Feb. 20.

It is open to anyone 60 or older who likes to play a stringed instrument or sing, or both. Beginners are welcome, and there’s no need to read music or remember the words. Drop by MRSS any Wednesday or Thursday morning to sit in or listen!

Under normal circumstances, Medicaid beneficiaries’ eligibility for benefits is reviewed and renewed once a year. During the Covid pandemic, this requirement was waived and eligibility was automatically renewed.

W&L Professors Part Of Joint Effort By Colleges

During the opening ceremonies of the Lone Star Rodeo Friday night at the Anderson Coliseum of the Virginia Horse Center, an American flag was unfurled in the darkened arena in a salute to the U.S. armed forces. A Rockbridge County woman died following a fire at her house Friday afternoon.

Del. Ellen Campbell, having just completed her first session of the General Assembly on Saturday, announced Monday she is a candidate for reelection. Because of redistricting, she will be seeking to represent a newly reconfigured district that includes only a portion of Rockbridge County.
