Girls Fourth, Boys Ninth At Valley Cup Relays

Enduring close sets, the Rockbridge County High School volleyball team earned a 3-0 road win over Alleghany on Thursday in Low Moor to improve to 8-1 overall.

The annual Labor Day 5-kilometer running race and kids’ 600-meter fun run welcomed about 55 participants in Buena Vista on Monday morning, raising funds for the Parry McCluer High School cross country teams. Alleghany knocked off the Parry McCluer High School volleyball team 3-0 in Covington on Thursday evening.

In their first competition of the season, the Parry McCluer High School cross country runners had strong performances at the Blacksburg Relays on Saturday.

The Rockbridge County High School volleyball team finished the first week of the season at 6-1, earning a 3-0 road win over Fort Defiance on Thursday and going 4-1 to win the Silver Bracket at the fifth annual Tom Farruggio Tournament on Saturday in Palmyra.

After a very successful career of coaching at the high school level, former Rockbridge County High School head volleyball coach Amanda McCoy has returned to the area to try her hand in the collegiate ranks.
