Buena Vista Woman’s Club Celebrates 100 Years Of Doing Good

ConnectionPlus Healthcare + Hospice, formerly Rockbridge Area Hospice, held its annual Volunteer Appreciation luncheon last month. Volunteers serve a huge role at the organization and without them, it would not be able to provide the extra scope of services needed to ensure that its patients and their families can enjoy life for as long as possible, said a spokesperson. Recognized were administrative and patient care volunteer Peter Fyfe (left) and patient care volunteer Ann Nay. Together they have almost 60 years of dedication and loyalty to the organization.

Hopkins Green was the new venue for the annual Valley of Virginia Herb Guild’s herb sale Saturday. This was the best sale the Guild has had since 2018 with 145 sales. The weather cooperated for once (the last two years were cold and rainy) and there was nothing left on the tables at the sale’s end at noon. Jane Horton won the raffled container of herbs. Club’s Trip To Parkway Saturday

The weather was great for the Craft and Bakers Event at the Glasgow Farmers Market Saturday. Eleven vendors, along with two food vendors, participated. On April 29, the annual Lip Sync Battle was held in the RCHS auditorium. There were nine student acts, and a westernthemed faculty act. Third place was awarded to a group of freshmen students called “The Believers,” second place was awarded to the track team, and first place went to Terry Neutusil. In total, 165 tickets were sold, and $1,625 was raised and donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

As the spring bulbs, dogwoods, and redbuds are gone or fading and the growing season is well underway, the Rockbridge Area Master Gardeners are urging area residents to be on the lookout for invasive alien plants popping up.

The Rockbridge Area Relief Association will participate in the 31st annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive on Saturday, May 13. This food drive, the largest in the nation, is held in partnership with members of the National Association of Letter Carriers, the National Rural Letter Carriers’ Association, and the U.S. Postal Service.

The next Rockbridge Conservation (RACC) seminar considers two different approaches on pricing carbon to reduce emissions in the economy needed to address climate change.

The land on which the Murat Solid Waste and Recycling Collection Center sits is being purchased by Rockbridge County so that improvements, including an expansion of the facility, can proceed.
