For the second year in a row, Parry McCluer High School junior shortstop Payton Emore was named to the Virginia High School League Class 1 all-state softball second team last week.
An at-large selection, Emore was a leader for the Blues all season. Under the direction of head coach Troy Clark, the Blues went 11-8 overall this year, going 6-2 in the Pioneer District to finish second. PM ended its season with a 4-2 loss to George Wythe in the Region 1C quarterfinals.
Earlier this month, Emore was named to the all-district and all-region first teams. Prior to being selected to the VHSL Class 1 all-state second team last year, Emore was named to the Virginia High School Coaches Association Class 1 all-state first team as a freshman in 2021.
