ROGER SIMMONS
ROGER SIMMONS
Born Sept. 18, 1961, in Rockbridge Country, he was a son of Janice Jane Lotts Simmons Horne and the late William Edward Simmons.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by wife Mary Lou Montgomery Simmons, stepfather Gordon Eugene Horne, sister Peggy Sue Horne Southers, and grandparents Edward and Mary Simmons, Gard and Bertha Lotts and Jake and Bessie Horne.
Roger is survived by his brother, James Simmons; sisters, Rebecca Simmons, Barbara Simmons and Virginia Horne; sister-in-law, Zola Goodbar; and special friends Julian Smith and John Hull Jr.
Roger was a loyal and dedicated person to his family, friends and community and never met a stranger. He was a member of Effinger Volunteer Fire Department as well as Kerrs Creek Volunteer Fire Department, holding numerous positions including line officer, sergeant of arms and lieutenant before he took his lifetime membership with Kerrs Creek. Roger was a member of the Lexington Moose Lodge for 17 years, holding many positions including governor, junior governor and trustee.
A funeral will be conducted at 3 pm. Friday, March 15, at Harrison Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Burr Datz. The family will receive friends one hour before the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the Connections Plus Hospice.
