BILL KINZER JR.

William “Bill” Louis Kinzer Jr., 85, passed away on April 13, 2024, in Buena Vista. Born Dec. 29, 1938, in Linwood, New Jersey, he was the son of William Louis Kinzer Sr. and Evelyn Elise Plowman Kinzer.

He was preceded in death by his father, mother, and beloved wife of 62 years, Lula Elaine Kinzer. 

Surviving are his children Evelyn Reeves (Kat), Lynn Williams (Blan), Beth Smith (David), Cheryl Brugger, Lisa Fischer (Andy), and Scott Kinzer (Vanessa); brother Tom Kinzer (Judy); 14 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.

Bill was a graduate of Unidis High School in West Virginia in 1956. He attended Marshall University, Ohio University, University of Toledo, Virginia Military Institute, West Virginia University, Glenville State College, Virginia Tech, James MadisonUniversity, and many other universities in which he ultimately earned several degrees. 

He began his career in education in West Virginia and later moved to Virginia to become the principal of Mountain ViewElementary School, Natural BridgeElementary School, Natural BridgeMiddle School, and Natural BridgeHigh School, where he was also the chemistry and physics teacher. He retired as superintendent in Letcher County, Kentucky.

Over the years while working full-time as an educator, he enjoyed working odd jobs in his off time such as painting, hanging drywall and excavating. Upon retirement, he operated a successful sharpening and small engine repair business for many years. 

Bill was a loving father, grandfather, and brother. He was a member of the MountOlivet MethodistChurch and the Lexington Moose Lodge #1700. His favorite things included tractors, tools, westerns, a cold bottle of Pepsi, and he was known to sing a little karaoke every now and then.

A funeral will be held Thursday, April 18, at 11 a.m. at Harrison Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Lucy Hughes officiating and a burial to follow at RockbridgeMemorial Gardens where he will be reunited on his wedding anniversary with his beloved wife for eternity. 

Family will receive friends and family Wednesday, April 17, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Harrison Funeral Home.
