On April 18, 2024, Vivian Kay Painter Fix, 60, of Buena Vista answered God’s calling and took her place in heaven.

Predeceasing were her father, Dennie Painter, mother, Dora Painter, and brother, Hilton T. Greene Jr. 

Surviving are her sister, Danita P. Whitehead of Lowesville; brother, Richard E. Painter (April) of Henrico; brother, Darrell B. Painter (Louanne) of Monroe; daughters Caitlin Fix Carter (Gary), Emily Fix, both of Lexington, and Jessica Boutilier of Florida; one grandson, Holden Carter; her special companion, Stacey Wade; and ex-husband, John Fix.

Kay entered the world on Sept. 22, 1963, at Stonewall Jackson Memorial Hospital and immediately displayed her early beauty and intelligence. Under the tutelage of her step grandfather, Ashby, she was reading by 3 and became an apt student in kindergarten and the Parry McCluer school system. After graduation, she briefly continued her educational studies at Virginia Tech before entering the local workforce in the Buena Vista area. 

She fought debilitating diseases for approximately 42 years until finally succumbing to them on April 18, 2024, in her Buena Vista home. If you knew Kay, you knew she could be a stubborn force with which to deal. She was also a kind person who loved her friends to no end and for whom she would give her all to comfort and aid. In her last years, she endured seemingly inhuman suffering until God determined he had tested her enough and ultimately called her Home. All who knew Kay should wish for her strength and steadfastness. 

Kay’s absence will be very profound but she is in a happy place, now, still watching us, smiling at times, and laughing with a new countenance.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 27, 2024, at Corner Stone Baptist Church, 106 Williams Store Road, Monroe, VA 24574.
