THOMAS PICKRAL SR.

Thomas Monroe Pickral Sr. passed away peacefully at his home on May 2, 2024, at the age of 75. Tommy was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Mary Kathryn Kurzweg Pickral; his children, Kathryn Pickral Wentz, Thomas Monroe Pickral Jr. (Gregor) and James Robert Pickral (Mary Katherine); and his grandchildren, James Wendell Wentz and Mary Kathryn Wentz. He is also survived by a brother, James C. Pickral (Diana); twin brother, Dr. Robert M. Pickral (Nancy); and two sisters, Janet P. Moncure (the late George V. Moncure) and Elizabeth P. Molino (Gary); as well as a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Col. George Monroe Pickral Jr. and Edna Moore McCormick Pickral.

Tommy spent his childhood in Lexington and was a graduate of Lexington High School. He served in the U.S. Navy after graduating from high school and went on to graduate from Louisiana State University with a degree in accounting.

Tommy began his career in Roanoke as a CPA with Peat Marwick Mitchell & Co. He later moved to New Orleans, La., and co-founded Home Automation Inc. (“HAI”) in 1985.

He was a true family man who enjoyed attending his children’s sporting events both in New Orleans and in Richmond. Tommy loved to travel and enjoyed seeing the world in his retirement. He delighted in spoiling his grandchildren and recently moved to Atlanta, Ga., to be closer to his children and grandchildren.
