DEBRA LUCAS
DEBRA LUCAS
She was born in Lexington on June 19, 1962, daughter of the late Stephen Paul Funk and Betty Denton Funk.
She was a member of Fairfield Presbyterian Church where she served as an elder. She enjoyed playing handbells and directing various choirs throughout the years. She was involved in numerous Bible studies where she enjoyed fellowship with Christian friends.
She worked as a preschool teacher for many years, then as director of the Child-Net afterschool program at Waddell and Fairfield elementary schools, and retired in 2012 from Rockbridge County Fiscal Services.
She loved the family farm, and especially enjoyed her pet pigs. She loved traveling with her closest friends, and was the best Nana to her grandchildren.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, Robert J. Lucas of Fairfield; son, Stephen R. Lucas (Kristin) of Fairfield; daughter, Jennifer L. Eamer (Jordan) of Lawrencetown, Nova Scotia; “adopted” son, Nathan Z. Harris (Kelsey) of Fairfield; brother, P. Alan Funk (Juanita) of Mint Spring; grandchildren, Jayda Lucas, Aubree Lucas, Trinity Lucas, Fox Eamer, Archer Eamer and Kody Harris; and many special friends.
A graveside service will be held tomorrow, Thursday, May 16, at 11 a.m. at Timber Ridge A.R. Presbyterian Cemetery by the Rev. Punker Robertson and the Rev. Carl Moore.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making blood donations in her honor and/or donations to the Emily Couric Cancer Center at the University of Virginia.
Arrangements are by Harrison Funeral Home. NG
