Joan Eggleston Spangler, 89, of Spout Spring, formerly of Glasgow, died peacefully surrounded by her family the morning of May 13, 2024, at home.

Joan Eggleston Spangler, 89, of Spout Spring, formerly of Glasgow, died peacefully surrounded by her family the morning of May 13, 2024, at home.

She was the devoted wife of the late James Osborne Spangler for 54 years. Born July 7, 1934, in Lynchburg, she was a daughter of the late Leonard Lee and Josephine Ashley Eggleston.

Mrs. Spangler was a longtime member of the Glasgow Presbyterian Church until its closing, then moved her membership to Appomattox Court House Presbyterian Church. She was a dedicated asset to her church community and served in many roles throughout her lifetime, including Sunday school teacher, elder, member of the choir, and was active with The Women of the Church group.

Joan worked as an administrative assistant for many years in the Rockbridge County school system, where she eventually retired. She was a well-known cook, seamstress, baker, crafter and gardener.

Surviving her are a daughter, Roseanna S. Mitchell (Calvin) of Spout Spring; one granddaughter, Ashley M. Warner (Kenneth) of Appomattox; and two great-granddaughters, Kinsley and Harper Warner.

A graveside service was conducted Friday, May 17, at Glasgow Cemetery by the Rev. Ron Moore. A memorial service followed at Appomattox Court House Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Michael Duncan officiating.
