BUDDY McFADDIN

BUDDY McFADDIN

Emory Madison “Buddy” McFaddin III, age 70, of Glasgow, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 23, 2024, at Carilion RockbridgeCommunity Hospital.

Buddy was born on Aug. 29, 1953, in Lexington, the son of the late Emory M. McFaddin and Janet VanNess McFaddin.

Buddy’s love for his wife, Joyce, and his devoted companion, Emma Lou, was evident to all who knew him.  True to his name, Buddy was a friend to all, he loved to talk about family, politics, music, and tell stories; the clock stood still when he spent time with his family and friends.  His passion for the outdoors was second to none. He loved hunting, gardening, and all nature’s beauty.

As a teenager, he held to the family tradition and played various musical instruments in his father’s bluegrass band, the Country Pickers.  He was known for his talent playing the five-string banjo, his instrument of choice.

Working with his father in the logging industry further cemented his love for the outdoors. Upon his father's retirement, he was employed by Big Island Log and Lumber Inc. until 2016. Then he followed in his father’s footsteps and McFaddin Logging was once again in business in Rockbridge County.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Joyce, and precious dog, Emma Lou; brothers, Tony McFaddin (Carol), and Monte McFaddin (Netta); sisters Mitz Buskey (Bruce), and Patti Nicely (Steve); several nieces and nephews; and adopted nephews, Jacob and Nathan.

Due to his fondness for the outdoors, a memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 1, at 11 a.m. at LakeRobertson’s picnic shelter, 106 Lake Robertson Drive, Lexington.

Instead of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Broad CreekCemetery, c/o Teresa Alexander, 123 Tally Ho Lane, Natural Bridge, VA24578, or the SPCA, 10 Animal Place, Lexington, VA 24450.

Arrangements are by Harrison Funeral Home & Crematory.
