SHELDON SORRELS

The Rev. Paul Sheldon Sorrels, 83, of Buena Vista passed away Monday, June 17, 2024, at his home.

Born July 1, 1940, Sheldon was the son of William Anderson and Grace Mae Pugh Sorrels.

On July 29, 1960, he married the love of his life, Emily "Faye" Campbell Sorrels who preceded him in death and they are now reunited. In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mary Anne Sorrels and Dorothy Marie Sorrels Ashburne.

Survivors include his devoted daughters, Angela Sorrels Yurachek of Harrisonburg and Lisa Sorrels Bolen of Buena Vista. He was also a proud grandfather of three grandchildren: Amber Nicole Bolen, Lucas Ryan Bolen and Michael Paul Yurachek. He is also survived by two sisters, Ruth Virginia Sorrels Moore and Carolyn Gail Sorrels Hill, both of Buena Vista. Sheldon had numerous nieces, nephews as well as many friends.  He was truly a pillar of his community and loved by many.

Sheldon was a graduate of Parry McCluer High School and he received his level 3 ordained certificate from Maranatha Bible College in Dublin. After retiring from Burlington Industries, Sheldon spent over 20 years serving the Lord and ministering to others at numerous churches throughout Rockbridge County, Shenandoah and Culpeper to name a few.  In September 2023, he retired from Mountain View Pentecostal Holiness Church where he served as pastor for nine years.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 22, at Faith Baptist Church in Natural Bridge Station by the Rev. Terry Bostic, the Rev. David Bain and the Rev. Jay Thorne. Burial will follow at Green Hill Cemetery in Buena Vista.  Family will receive friends 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, June 21, at Harrison Funeral Home.
