Joyce Benton of Lexington passed away peacefully on June 26th after a long illness.

Joyce was born and raised in North Carolina, worked as a school teacher in Virginia Beach, and lived in Chicago and Houston before retiring to Lexington with her husband Tex in 2001. She immediately established a great commitment to the local community, spending countless hours volunteering with the Rockbridge Area Democrats, Roots and Shoots, the RARA Food Pantry, and Secret Grannies.

Joyce's warmth and generosity will be greatly missed. 

Joyce was preceded in death by her husband Tex, parents Clyde Layton and Letha Mae Barbour, her sister Rudine, and her brother Rick. 

She is survived by her son Tom, daughter-in-law Keren, grandson Ozzie, niece Jan and nephew Eddie and their families.
