BILL SELDEN
He was born in Richmond on Sept. 24, 1936, to Charles and Juanita Holderfield Selden. Bill was the youngest of 13 children, and a graduate of John Marshall High School.
Bill spent many years working in pharmaceutical manufacturing for the A.H. Robins Company in Richmond, and also enjoyed construction work. He was one to always keep busy. After moving to Lexington in his later years, Bill worked maintenance for many local area motels.
In 1961, Bill signed on with the Army National Guard, where he actively served until 1988, remaining in the reserves until 1996, when he fully retired. He was a proud member of the 276th Engineer Battalion. Bill also was a longtime member of the Hanover County Volunteer Fire Department and would give of his time for volunteer missionary work with Hurricane Relief. He enjoyed fishing and trips to the beach with his family.
Bill is survived by his wife of 40 years, Peggy; his children, Kristie Lynne and Dennis Edgar Selden; step-daughters, Jane Mc-Donald and Shannon Hines; nine grandchildren; six nephews, five nieces and a longtime faithful friend, Mike Satterwhite. He was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings.
A graveside service was conducted Friday, July 26, at Bethel United Methodist Church, in Lancaster. NG
