Audrey Margaret Spangler Leonard, 90, of Lexington passed away peacefully on July 30, 2024.

Audrey was born Aug. 8, 1933, in Long Beach, Calif., to John and Ruby Spangler.

She graduated from Colonial High School in Blue Ridge and was married to the Rev. Robert Leonard of Lexington Baptist Church where she served her Lord faithfully for over 40 years. In the church, she was the choir director, Sunday school teacher, Bible school director, church secretary, and she led women’s Bible studies. She was a remarkable woman who loved Lexington and served as Rockbridge county registrar for many years. Audrey greatly loved her Lord and longed to live by faith in Him as shown in her favorite verse, Galatians 2:20.

Her husband, the Rev. Robert Leonard, preceded her in death.

Surviving are her loving daughters, Vickie Leonard Parker and Julie Leonard Whitesell; son-in-law, Richard Parker; four grandchildren, Joel Parker and his wife, Jennifer, Jessica Whitesell, Aaron Parker and Robert Whitesell; and sister, Angela Jernigan.

A graveside service was conducted Friday, Aug. 2, at Glade Creek Cemetery.

A celebration of life was held Friday, Aug. 2, at Lexington Baptist Church, followed by a time of fellowship and a meal.

The family would like to thank the staff at Shenandoah Valley Health and Rehab and Carilion Rockbridge Community Hospital for their compassionate care.

Please join us in celebrating Audrey’s life and legacy. She will be deeply missed but forever in our hearts.
