CAROL STATON
CAROL STATON
Carolyn Sue McNally Staton
Sept. 3, 1937 to Aug. 7, 2024
On Aug. 7, 2024, Carolyn Sue McNally Staton departed from her earthly residence to enter the gates of Heaven to reside in her eternal home. She was born on Sept. 3, 1937, in Paris, Tenn., daughter of the Rev. Russell McNally and Gladys Johnson McNally.
Being a preacher’s daughter, she was always active in church. In her teen years, she even sang on radio stations with her father. She was a lifelong member of the Church of God of Prophecy where she participated in church activities, led song service, and was the treasurer for many years until her circumstances prevented her from doing so. Her most requested songs, “God of the Mountain,” “Thank You Lord” and “Building a Bridge” were sung with a powerful, angelic voice that touched many people's lives.
Carol became a granny to many in the community by providing childcare in her home for several years. She was an excellent cook, loved collecting dolls and watching “The Golden Girls” and Hallmark movies but most of all she loved her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Marshall (M.P.) Staton; grandson Caleb Marshall Staton; and her sisters Marie, Lyda, Lois, Wanda and a special brother, Jimmy.
Carol leaves behind many memories for her surviving family to cherish including children Anita Tomlinson (Garry), Dennis Staton (Melissa) and Barbie Martin (Herbie); grandchildren Stephanie Smith (Cam), Lisa King (Kelly), Charlie Tomlinson, Nate Martin (Sierra), Mindi Martin (Mike), Josh Martin, Kelsi Thomas (John), April Staton, Lucas Staton (Jess), Heather Gearhart (Tyler), Hannah Edwards (Kev-Man) and Lindsay Zimbro (Kevin); and 16 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving her is a special sister-in-law, Carol McNally of Ohio, and a special niece, Sue Cole of Tennessee.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Shenandoah Valley Health and Rehab and ConnectionsPlus Healthcare + Hospice for their love and support of her.
A funeral service will be conducted 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at Bolling, Grose & Lotts Funeral Chapel by the Rev. Arnold Bradley. Burial will follow at RockbridgeMemorial Gardens. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
Arrangements are being handled by Bolling, Grose, & Lotts Funeral Home and Cremation Services.
