He was born on Oct. 20, 1936, in Rockbridge County to Richard Cordie Garrett Sr. and Estelle Huffman Garrett Secrist.

Claude was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Lois Ramsey Garrett; his brother, Calvin Garrett; and his parents.

Our “Pap” was so incredibly loved and adored. He was a bright light to all that knew him. He was a faithful member of First Brethren Church for over 60 years, serving in many different roles during that time. Claude was a faithful, devoted Christian, always striving to honor and serve God, and showering his family and friends with love.

Claude will be lovingly remembered by his daughters, Marnita (Kenny) Wright and Dana (Mark) Ramsey; his grandchildren, Casey (Paul), Kelly (John), Danielle (Matt), and Robbie (Crista); great-grandchildren, Devin, Alexis, Callie, Dylan, Addisyn, William, Hayden, Carleigh, Rylan, Nash, Lennon and Kenna; his sister; Clara Huffman; and brothers, Richard Garrett Jr. and Charles Secrist.

The family wishes to thank the Rockbridge Area Hospice for their dedication, love and support. Special thanks to Liz, Karen, Holly, Chaplain Pam and Brittany for their love and care of Claude during his final weeks. We also wish to thank his special lifetime friends, Pastor Bane and Carol Allen, for their support, love and friendship.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Rockbridge Area Hospice.

A graveside service was conducted Monday, Feb. 6, at Green Hill Cemetery with the Rev. W. David Bain officiating.
